If you are looking for a unique dog with a gorgeous appearance to be a lifelong companion for you, you need to hear about the White Swiss Shepherd dog breed. This breed is a descendant of the widespread and adored German Shepherd, but it comes with a gorgeous twist—a stunning, white, fluffy coat that gives it an adorable yet powerful appearance.

If you want to learn more about this dog breed and potentially become a pet parent to the White Swiss Shepherd, read the article below.

Height: 21–26 inches
Weight: 55–88 pounds
Lifespan: 10–12 years
Colors: White
Suitable for: Families with large backyards, active people and families, experienced dog owners
Temperament: Intelligent, protective, alert, energetic, and agile

The White Swiss Shepherd is a gorgeous snow-white dog, a relatively new breed recognized by The Kennel Club only in 2017. It is thought that the White Swiss Shepherd originates from the white coloration of the German Shepherd. While the white coloration was frowned upon and even a cause of disqualification for the German Shepherd, the white strain was later developed into the White Swiss Shepherd.

The white strain was first registered in 1917 by the American Kennel Club, and this dog was imported until it eventually became an entirely separate breed. This dog is valued for its gentle yet intelligent nature, energetic and dynamic spirit, and gorgeous white coat.

White Swiss Shepherd puppies are adorable little balls of snow-white fur. When deciding to acquire a White Swiss Shepherd puppy, it is crucial to find a reputable breeder. These dogs are prone to some health conditions, so you’ll want to go through a breeder that will responsibly test their stock and practice ethical breeding.

When picking up your puppy, you’ll want to do so in person to check the conditions in which your puppy is living and to meet the parents. Once you get your puppy, you’ll need to devote much of your attention in the first few weeks of their settling in. Proper socialization and training from the beginning are recommended to ensure your dog is as friendly and peaceful as possible.

Temperament & Intelligence of the White Swiss Shepherd

The White Swiss Shepherd is a brilliant and alert breed known for its watchful yet gentle nature. While they’ve got a protective temper directed towards their family members, they can be very friendly and outgoing dogs with proper training. While they are considered a breed with a protective attitude, their soft nature will step in most of the time, making them gentler than their cousin the German Shepherd.

These dogs adore being the center of attention and can quickly bond with every family member. However, they tend to choose one person in particular to form a strong bond, especially if they spend most of their time with this person. They are very devoted to their pet parents and are a joy to work with.

Are These Dogs Good for Families? 👪

While the White Swiss Shepherd is an excellent family dog, it is better suited for families with older children. They are boisterous as puppies and adults, making them unsuitable for toddlers as they might accidentally knock them over during playtime.

Because this breed is highly energetic, they absolutely require a spacious backyard to have ample room for running and exploring. They are not suited for apartments and will be happiest living in the countryside.

Does This Breed Get Along With Other Pets?

White Swiss Shepherd dogs tend to exhibit aggression towards other strange dogs when not socialized properly. They might even show aggressiveness towards other smaller pets in the household, such as rabbits, guinea pigs, or birds, because of their hunting instincts. However, if a diligent pet parent spends significant time and effort training and socializing these gorgeous pups, they can expect a well-behaved dog that will accept other pets and dogs as pack members.

Because the White Swiss Shepherd is a relatively new breed, a potential owner must consider several factors to become the perfect pet parent.

Food & Diet Requirements 🦴

Being a large dog breed, the White Swiss Shepherd needs a lot of food to satisfy its appetite. Their food needs to balance vitamins and minerals perfectly to keep their bodies lean and their gorgeous white fur healthy and soft. Since these pups are prone to bloat, it is best to have several smaller meals throughout the day to minimize the risk.

Feeding your White Swiss Shepherd high-quality commercial dog food appropriate for each life stage is best. If you’d like to include homemade meals, it is best to do so with a veterinarian’s supervision.

Exercise 🐕

Because the White Swiss Shepherd is such an energetic dog, they require at least 2 hours of daily activity to keep them happy. The White Swiss Shepherd is an alert dog, constantly on the move and looking for a job. Because they were once used as working dogs, they can still benefit greatly from some chores. They are agile and have excellent stamina, making them a great fit for all outdoor activities and canine sports.

Training 🎾

While the White Swiss Shepherd is an intelligent breed that will be fairly easy to train, they still require a patient and stern hand. They will respond best to positive reinforcement because of their sensitive and gentle nature. The most important part of their training will be a perfect and reliable recall, allowing them to spend time off the leash while staying safe.

Additionally, if you live in a multi-pet home, you might want to train and socialize your dog from an early age to make sure they are friendly and accepting of their companions.

Grooming ✂️

While White Swiss Shepherds don’t require special maintenance, they will need a regular brush once or twice a week. They don’t require trimming of the fur, but to prevent matting, you will need to brush them and occasionally bathe them to give their coat a lovely shine. Remember that these stunning dogs shed a fair bit, so get ready for frequent vacuuming.

Since prevention is the best form of health care, we advise you to acquire your pup from a responsible breeder, which will reduce the chances of your pup developing some hereditary conditions.

Aside from genetic disorders, these dogs are prone to some minor health issues, which can be monitored and reduced with healthy nutrition and regular exercise.
