What is “beauty”? Everyone has their own definition of what it means for something to be beautiful. Dogs are beautiful because of their personalities, but there are some breeds that are more aesthetically pleasing than others.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and it’s probable that you’re partial to the way a certain breed looks, but we have put together a list of 25 elegant dog breeds based on general opinions from people all over the world. Maybe your favorite dog made the list!
1. Doberman Pinscher
Dobermans have a sleek, shiny appearance with a cropped tail and a confident stance that makes them appear as if they own the room when they walk in.
2. German Shepherd
Healthy, working dogs like German Shepherds have an air of elegance, but they have a playful side as well.
3. Chow Chow
The Chow Chow’s elegance is displayed like the regality of a lion, with their full mane and independent mannerisms.
4. Akita Inu
5. Alaskan Malamute
Similar in appearance to the Akita Inu, the Malamute has pointed ears and a curly tail to go along with their striking black and white coat. They love to “talk” and will give you eloquent “speeches” as part of their way of communicating.
6. Rhodesian Ridgeback
Rhodesian Ridgebacks are clean-looking, sleek dogs with a distinctive fur “ridge” along their back.
7. Great Dane
Great Danes have the same level of elegance as a horse, mainly because they’re close in size. Great Danes are tall and regal with sleek coats and long tails.
Boxers are muscular dogs with smooth coats. They are beautiful but intimidating and can ward off strangers with their stare.
The Kuvasz’s appearance is beautiful with their fluffy, white coat and size, but they can be quite aggressive and territorial, so they require a great deal of training.
10. Australian Shepherd
Australian Shepherds have beautiful, thick, multi-colored coats that are quite unique. Sometimes, this breed also has two different-colored eyes, which adds to their beauty.
11. Canaan Dog
The short, fuzzy nature of the Canaan dog allows them to not shed much, making them quite easy to maintain. They do well with owners and family but are wary with strangers.
12. Shiba Inu
The Shiba is similar in appearance to the Canaan dog, and they also tend to be healthy, durable animals. They do not need much care or attention in terms of grooming.
Small and silky smooth, the Beagle sports a tri-colored coat and wide flat ears that you will want to pet.
The Azawakh looks similar to a greyhound, but with a light tan coat and white-tipped feet and tail. They love spending time with their family.
15. Siberian Husky
Large, fluffy dogs, Siberian Huskies have striking, blue eyes that make them gorgeous, stand-out animals.
16. Belgian Malinois
The Belgian Malinois looks like a cross between a German Shepherd and a Doberman. They are fuzzy but not fluffy, and their pointed ears stand out as a distinctive feature.
17. Pharaoh Hound
The Pharaoh Hound looks like what you’d see drawn in Egyptian hieroglyphs. They are smooth and sleek, which allows them to chase game like rabbits.
18. Shetland Sheepdog
Shetland Sheepdogs sport tri-colored, fluffy coats. Their compact build makes it easy for them to round up sheep. They’re known for being well-behaved and non-problematic pets.
Quiet and agile, the Whippet makes a great hunting dog. They have sleek, speckled coats and partially droopy ears that make them both beautiful and adorable.
20. Ibizan Hound
Bred for racing, the Ibizan Hound utilizes their aerodynamic build for speed. Their almost all-white coat is interrupted with a few brown spots that give it a unique appearance.
A one-of-a-kind breed, the Dalmatian is known for their black and white all-over spots. They are independent dogs that require a great deal of exercise.
22. Bichon Frise
Small and fluffy, the Bichon Frise has pure white fur that needs to be cared for properly so it doesn’t yellow over time. Their fluffy coat, however, does not shed, which is an added elegant advantage.
The Havanese knows that they are a beautiful dog because they will sit on your lap and let you admire them for long periods of time. Their silky coat also doesn’t shed.
24. Yorkshire Terrier
These “toy” dogs are often carried in their owner’s purse because of their small size. Their little tufts of hair often have bows and ribbons to add to their cuteness.
25. Miniature Pincher
Looking like a cross between a Doberman and a Chihuahua, the Miniature Pincher is smooth and small, with a bi-colored coat that begs you to pet it.
These dogs are among the most beautiful in the world, but none can compare to the dog whom you spend your days with. Enjoy the beauty of these breeds listed here, but be sure to admire your own dog’s beauty, as well!
