There’s nothing quite as striking as a silver dog. Maybe that’s simply due to the fact that the silver markings cause them to resemble wolves, but for whatever reason, it’s hard to ignore any pooch that has such a distinctive coat.
Of course, silver coats are also exceedingly rare, and there are only a few breeds capable of them. In the list below, we’ll share some of our favorites, so you can finally find a dog that lets you stand out from the pack.

1. Siberian Husky
These powerful sled dogs often have black-and-white coats, but sometimes you’ll encounter one that’s a sleek silver. That coloring makes the Siberian Husky’s speed all the more impressive, as all you’ll see is a silver streak flying by you in the snow.
2. Norwegian Elkhound
When you think of dogs that resemble wolves, the Norwegian Elkhound should be near the top of the list. While individuals only weigh about 50 pounds, they’re incredibly fierce pack hunters, and just a few of them are capable of bringing down a full-grown elk. Of course, if you bring one into your home, they’ll probably dedicate more time to helping you take down a burger.
3. Weimaraner
These ghost-like beauties have silver coats and blue eyes, giving them an otherworldly quality. All they care about is hanging out with their families, though, so this is one ghost that will likely only haunt your couch.
4. Glen of Imaal Terrier
While Glen of Imaal Terriers are small, they’re also fearless and will chase small game all over the place, including following them into holes and other tight spaces. They’re incredibly intelligent with few health problems and minimal grooming needs, making them perfect household pets.
5. Alaskan Malamutes
Alaskan Malamutes are often confused with Siberian Huskies, although Malamutes tend to be larger. Regardless, they’re just as perfectly-suited for cold climates, and you’ll be hard-pressed to find a breed that’s better equipped to save your life in a blizzard.
6. Shiloh Shepherd
A close cousin to the German Shepherd, the Shiloh Shepherd is a relatively new breed that originated in New York. They come in just about every color combination under the sun, but many have silver markings, making them look like a finely-polished version of their German counterparts.
7. Koolie
Koolies are often mistaken for Australian Shepherds, and like those dogs, they were bred for herding in Australia. These pups usually have an array of colors, but their markings are often laid over a solid foundation of silver and white. The fact that they’re prone to heterochromia (different-colored eyes) only adds to their distinctive appearance.
8. Old English Sheepdog
These shaggy pooches come in an array of dark colors, all offset against a base of solid white. Silver is one of the most prominent contrasting hues, which helps Old English Sheepdogs blend in with the livestock they protect.
