Part of the American Pitbull Terrier breed, the American Staffordshire Terrier breed, or a combination of both, Brindle Pitbull dogs are affectionate, loyal, and strong companions, with a unique and eye-catching coat that sets it apart. If you’re thinking about adopting a Brindle Pitbull dog, you’ll gain a wonderful family pet.
Are Brindle Pitbull Dogs Safe?
The Pitbull dog breed has a stigma of vicious aggression associated with dogfighting and headlines of attacks. This breed has been abused since its origins in England, when it was used for blood sports. This unfortunate history has done a regrettable disservice to a breed of dog that naturally has a loving temperament.
When properly loved, cared for, and socialized from birth, the American Brindle Pitbull dog breed is perfectly suited for families. They have a sensitive, intelligent, and playful nature and require little maintenance. Plus, Pitbull dogs have the ability to be nurturing caregiving therapy dogs, as well as search and rescue dogs.

What Is a Brindle Dog Coat?
Rather than a solid color, a brindle dog coat has brown or tawny base with lighter flecks and darker patterns such as tiger stripes mixed into it. Brindle coats can come in black, red, blue, fawn, and blue fawn.
Generally, the lighter colors are more apparent than the darker shades. However, the reverse can be true on some coats. Brindle Pitbull dogs can also have “points” where their body has a lighter coloring, while their extremities appear darker.
A brindle dog coat is not a rarity. It’s found in Red Nose Pitbull dogs and Blue Nose Pitbull dogs, as well as Boxers, Greyhounds, and French Bulldogs.
The lovable face of a Brindle Pitbull is broad with a short muzzle and wide-set small eyes and capped with short rounded ears. Brindle Pitbull dogs have a stocky, muscular build. They may appear intimidating, but well-loved dogs of this breed usually want to use their strength for cuddling or playful interaction.
How Big Do They Get?
A full-grown Brindle Pitbull dog averages between 30 to 60 pounds and stand at 18 to 21 inches tall. Generally, males tend to be larger than females.
Their Distinctive Coat
The coat on a Bindle Pitbull dog is easy to maintain. You won’t have to worry about year-round shedding, as they only shed twice a year. Smooth to the touch, their coats consist of short, coarse fur that has glossy appearance.
Blue Nose Brindle Pitbull
The coat coloring on a Blue Nose Brindle Pitbull dog has a blue and gray quality with light brown markings. Like their name, these dogs may have blue eyes and their nose and skin hue have a blue quality.
Red Nose Brindle Pitbull
A Red Nose Brindle Pitbull dog has a soft red-colored coat often combined with a fawn coloring. These dogs have either a reddish nose or a black nose.
Beyond their appealing brindle color combination that may cover their entire body, many Brindle Pitbull dogs have white patches. These markings can be found along their noses or between their eyes, as well as on their chest and feet.

When raised in a loving and caring environment, Brindle Pitbull dogs are a joy to have. However, before you adopt one, be sure your life matches up with your Brindle Pitbull dog’s unique needs. Brindle Pitbull dogs seek your attention and look to relate to you. Their facial expressions let you know exactly how they’re feeling. These sensitive dogs seem to have a broad spectrum of emotions. They can make strong bonds with every member of your family and are nurturing with children.
However, when you leave, they tend to suffer from separation anxiety, which may become severe. This frustration may be vented through destructive behavior. Consider how much time you may need to leave your Brindle Pitbull dog alone before adopting this type of dog.
Also, Brindle Pitbull dogs can become jealous if you give your attention to another dog. Generally, this breed does not like to get along with other dogs. However, early and frequent socialization can help your Pitbull puppy — and eventually, your grown-up dog — become friendlier.
Brindle Pitbull dogs need regular daily exercise of between an hour to two hours of active play, walking, or running. These dogs are a wonderful complement if you and your family lead an active lifestyle.
If you have the energy and space, you’ll enjoy one of the most playful breeds of dog. You may be amazed at your Brindle Pitbull dog’s level of athleticism. These dogs have impressive jumping skills!
Be aware that Bindle Pitbull dogs also like to dig. If they are not exercised enough or need to let out extra steam, these dogs will put a new hole where you may not have wanted one.
You’ll need to provide plenty of stimulation for your Brindle Pitbull dog’s active mind. Playing games and offering puzzle-type treat toys should keep your Pitbull dog content.
Brindle Pitbull dogs are aggressive chewers. Be aware that their urge to chew on anything and everything increases with boredom.

Overall, Brindle Pitbull dogs require minimal care. They need basic grooming and a balanced diet. However, you will need to be mindful of a few common health concerns.
Since the Pitbull dog breed sheds only twice a year, you’ll have an easy time maintaining your dog’s coat. Occasional brushing will help during shedding.
Pitbull dogs tend to sweat more than other breeds. You’ll need to keep all bedding materials clean. When bathing your Brindle Pitbull dog, be sure to use a mild shampoo. Pitbull dogs tend to have sensitive skin that can be easily irritated.
Additional grooming includes keeping your dog’s nails clipped to prevent injury. Also, check your Brindle Pitbull dog’s ears for wax buildup and debris to avoid an infection.

Brindle Pitbull dogs can live up to 12 to 15 years. However, even with the best of care, these dogs tend to have some health concerns.
Certain variances of Pitbull dog breeds, including the Blue Nose Brindle Pitbull, tend to be subject to excessive inbreeding. The smaller gene pool offers little variety and opens the door for genetic issues.
Common health issues include hip dysplasia, skin allergies, and hypothyroidism. Fortunately, you can take measures to help ease your Pitbull dog’s symptoms. One of the best investments for your Pitbull dog is a bed that offers comfort, plenty of orthopedic support, and hypoallergenic bedding materials.
Buying a Brindle Pitbull Puppy
If you’re interested in buying a Brindle Pitbull puppy, make sure you research and find a reputable breeder. Be sure to ask questions about the mother and request health certificates and genetic screening documents.
Also, a brindle coat is not rare and should not increase the price. Expect to pay between $300 to $500, with rare Blue Nose Brindle Pitbull puppies costing upward of $3,000.
Smart, sensitive, playful, strong, and loving, Brindle Pitbull dogs, with proper care, make loyal family pets and fantastic companions.
