Blue Nose Pitbull dogs have a broad, angular face with small blue eyes, a short muzzle, and often, a light gray nose. They have a stocky, athletic body with defined muscles that may seem intimidating. Males tend to be larger than females. Full-grown Blue Nose Pitbull dogs average between 30 and 60 pounds and stand between 18 and 21 inches tall.

Easy to maintain with limited shedding, the Blue Nose Pitbull’s coat is short and stiff with a glossy, smooth-to-the-touch texture. The color of their coat tends to be solid, although it can also be brindle striped. White markings often give this dog its distinctive look, appearing between their eyes, down to their nose, across their chest, and on their feet.

Are Blue Nose Pitbull Dogs Dangerous?

The American Pitbull Terrier has endured a difficult history. Originally, they were bred in England as hunting dogs for barbaric bull and bear baiting in the 1800s. Eventually, the abuse of this breed transitioned into dog fighting, followed by scary news reports of attacks.

When raised in a loving home, Blue Nose Pitbull dogs are affectionate and caring. They love to play and have a nurturing temperament. They were once used in England as a “nanny dog” to guard and play with children.

In America, this breed started out as a farm dog offering companionship and hunting and protecting skills. At the start of the last century, The American Pitbull Terrier had a run of popularity being featured as a show mascot, the RCA dog, and the loyal companion of the Little Rascals.

Sadly, due to some recent stigma, many dogs associated with the label Pitbull do not become readily adopted. The Blue Nose Pitbull is not recognized by American Kennel Club.

3 Little-Known Facts About the Blue Nose Pit Bull

1. They don’t always have blue noses.

Despite the blue description, these dogs may not have a fully blue nose. Generally, their noses appear light gray, with a tint of blue differentiating them from the fully black nose of other Pitbull dogs. Black and reddish nose coloring is possible as well.

2. The blue color is incredibly rare.

Regardless of the color variances, it’s worth noting that the color blue in any dog breed is extremely rare. The blue tone in the Blue Nose Pitbull reveals itself in more than just their noses. The hue of their skin tone, eyes, and toenails may also have a blue quality.

3. They are often prone to genetic disorders or conditions.

Because the blue color is so rare, often, breeders may use two closely related blue dogs to get more blue offspring—which leaves them open to genetic problems.

One of the amazing traits of Blue Nose Pitbull dogs is their capacity for experiencing a broad spectrum of emotions. These dogs want to relate to their owners, and they’ll let you know how they’re feeling by their varied facial expressions.

However, with all that love and affection comes a heightened level of anxiety when family members leave. Before you adopt a Blue Nose Pitbull, be sure to consider how long you’ll need to leave your dog on their own. Separation anxiety can lead to frustration and destructive behavior.

Things to Know When Owning a Blue Nose Pitbull

For the most part, Blue Nose Pitbull dogs are relatively low maintenance. With basic grooming, regular exercise, a balanced diet, and precautions for health issues, your Blue Nose Pitbull can live up to 12 to 15 years.

That being said, there are precautions to take when owning a Blue Nose Pitbull, and these also apply to any muscular dog. Statistically, small or medium-sized dogs are more aggressive than larger ones. But, the nature vs. nurture argument does come into play here, and statistics also show that the more care put into training and raising of these dogs, the more positive the outcome of their behaviors.

Food & Diet Requirements 🦴

By simply offering your Blue Nose Pitbull dog a balanced, high-protein diet, you’ll have a strong, happy, and healthy companion. Your Pitbull dog will need to eat twice a day, morning and evening. They consume between a cup and a half to two and a half cups of kibble a day, depending on their size.

Exercise 🐕

Your Blue Nose Pitbull dog not only wants to exercise daily, but they also need to do so for their overall health. Hypothyroidism can cause obesity. Regular exercise can keep your dog’s weight in check. Blue Nose Pitbull dogs enjoy walking, jogging, and playing. Be sure to keep your dog on a leash for theirs and others’ safety.

Blue Nose Pitbull dogs require, at a minimum, an hour to an hour and a half of exercise every single day. These dogs crave an active lifestyle with plenty of mental stimulation. They’re wonderfully playful and love active games.

You’ll want to avoid boredom with this type of dog. These dogs will find ways to entertain themselves that may not be satisfactory to you. Blue Nose Pitbull dogs are aggressive chewers and avid diggers. Offering your Pitbull dog sturdy chew toys and perhaps an acceptable portion of your yard to dig may help avoid unwanted destructive behavior.

Training 🦮

You’ll need to take a kind and gentle approach with a generous dose of patience when training your Blue Nose Pitbull puppy. This smart yet stubborn breed responds best to consistency, short training sessions, and a fun approach.

Punishment will do more harm than good with this dog breed. It’s important to note that when abused, these dogs can become quite dangerous. Instead, always use positive reinforcement in the form of treats and praise.

Offer your dog opportunities to use their bright mind and impressive athletic ability. Provide puzzle feeders and nearly indestructible chew toys. Also, playing hide and seek or running through an obstacle course can be excellent forms of interaction. Your Blue Nose Pitbull may impress you with their ample jumping ability.

While Blue Nose Pitbull dogs may crave human attention, they aren’t nearly as friendly to other dogs. They can quickly become jealous. If you frequently socialize your Pitbull as a puppy with other dogs, you may reduce this tendency.

Grooming ✂️

Blue Nose Pitbull dogs shed twice a year and require only occasional brushing and bathing. Be sure to use a mild shampoo, as this breed often suffers from skin irritation. Also, keep the bedding clean. Pitbull dogs tend to sweat and in some cases, excessively.

Proper oral hygiene is a must. Frequent teeth brushing and offering your dog dental chewing products help maintain and prolong your dog’s good dental health.

Finally, keeping your Pitbull dog’s nails clipped and ears clean of wax buildup and debris will help avoid and eliminate injury and infection.

Health and Conditions ❤️

Since the blue gene is recessive, inbreeding is the norm with Blue Nose Pitbull dogs. Pulling from a limited gene pool results in little variety, genetic problems, and recurring health issues. Be aware that common health ailments with this breed include hip dysplasia, skin allergies, and hypothyroidism. Buying a supportive, orthopedic dog bed can help comfort your Pitbull dog.

Male vs. Female

When choosing between a male and female Blue Nose Pitbull, the most significant difference will be its size. The two vary quite a bit. With size comes strength differences too.

If you are looking at costs alone, spaying a female is more costly than neutering a male. Also, we think we should mention that laws regarding ownership of a Blue Nose Pitbull might involve having an intact male. Our advice is to investigate this issue specific to your area, thoroughly with all of the potential conditions.
