The Corgi Beagle is the result of breeding a Beagle and either a Pembroke Welsh or Cardigan Welsh Corgi. Usually referred to as the Beagi, Corgi Beagle mixes are sweet, attentive, and fun-loving. They get along well with other dogs and love having a big family to live with. They’re protective of children, and they’ll let their owners know when someone strange is coming to the door.

These small dogs come in various colors and typically have dense, soft double coats that feel nice to the touch. They are active but not overly so, which makes them an excellent pet for people living in apartments and houses. The Beagi is highly intelligent but stubborn, which can make training a challenge, especially for first-time dog owners.

They have a strong prey drive, thanks to their Beagle and Corgi heritage, but they can get along with smaller animals like cats if trained to do so. They love to run and play, but they also enjoy lounging around when their family is relaxing at home. Keep reading to learn more about this attractive hybrid dog.

Beagi puppies are incredibly cute and sweet and stay that way throughout their lives. Of course, they have their quirks, and every dog is different. They’re not as common as other hybrid pups, and you may have trouble locating one in a shelter. However, you can contact rescue organizations and hybrid breed clubs to see if they have Beagis to adopt.

You can also research Beagle and Corgi breeders who specialize in hybrids.

3 Little-Known Facts About the Beagi

1. They Have an Excellent Sense of Smell.

Beagles have a whopping 220 million scent receptors that help them tell different odors apart from one another and remember them as time passes. Although the Beagi likely doesn’t have as an impressive sense of smell as their Beagle parent, it’s more refined than the average dog’s.

2. They Always Seem to be Cheerful.

The playful look that adorns the faces of Beagis makes them look like they are always cheerful and in a good mood, but that isn’t always the case, of course. Like any other dog, a Beagi can become irritated, bored, lonely, and sad occasionally. You wouldn’t know that a Beagi is feeling those emotions because of their bright eyes, perky ears, and cute smirks.

3. They Have Plenty of Stamina.

Even though they have short little legs and small bodies, Beagle Corgi mixes have a surprising amount of stamina and drive. They can take long hikes with their family members and keep up with the best of them on the agility course, even if they don’t typically win.

Temperament & Intelligence of the Corgi Beagle Mix 🧠

The Beagle Corgi mix is a bright, alert dog that observes everything around them, especially when something is happening on their home turf. They are attentive and loving when it comes to their family members. But they can be leery of strangers, particularly when meeting them in public and away from home.

Their parents are hunting and herding dogs, so they may try to herd other dogs or chase smaller animals. The average Beagi looks forward to a daily walk and regular outdoor activities with the family, but they don’t mind spending time at home where they feel safe.

Their small stature makes them suitable for apartment living if they can get outside for exercise and restroom breaks regularly throughout the day. Overall, these sweet-natured dogs are fantastic companions that don’t require much maintenance.

Are These Dogs Good for Families? 🏡

The Beagle Corgi mix is a great pet for families of all sizes. They love children and will do whatever it takes to protect them, whether at home or in a public setting.

They will play with kids of all ages for hours, and they love sleeping in the same bed as them or at least on the floor in their room. They don’t have to live in a household with kids, however. They’ll do fine with singles, couples, and the elderly.

Does This Breed Get Along With Other Pets? 🐶 😽

The Beagi typically gets along with other dogs inside and outside their home base. They will fit perfectly at the dog park and have no problem living with other dogs and cats. However, they should be introduced to cats as puppies so they can be taught not to chase them.

If they don’t live with other dogs, they should be regularly socialized with dogs outside of the home to ensure that they don’t become afraid of them or aggressive toward them. Smaller pets like rabbits and hamsters can trigger the Beagi’s prey drive and result in a dangerous game of chase. Small animals should always be supervised or kept away from them while in the same household.

Things to Know When Owning a Beagle Corgi Mix

There are still quite a few things to learn about the Beagi, especially if you are considering adopting one of your own. Here are all the specifics you should know to determine if you are up for caring for one of these adorable dogs.

Food & Diet Requirements 🦴

Beagis can eat between 1 and 2 cups of dry commercial dog food (or the equivalent of wet food) each day, depending on their activity levels. The dog food should contain high-quality protein like chicken or beef as the first ingredient.

It should also include fresh fruits and veggies for plenty of carbohydrate energy. Carrots, spinach, beets, and sweet potatoes are great options. What should not be included in their food is artificial flavors or colors of any kind.

Exercise 🐕

Every Corgi Beagle is different when it comes to their activity level. Some are active and curious, while others are lazier and more laidback. But all Beagis should be walked daily to control their weight and allow them to expel pent-up energy.

Other outdoor activities, like playing at the dog park, hitting the beach, and enjoying an agility course, will keep their body and mind in optimal condition as they age. Beagis should also have access to interactive toys while spending time inside the house.

Training 🦮

Although Beagis are intelligent and can easily learn commands and tricks, their stubbornness can make training hard on everyone involved. Patience and a firm yet caring attitude should be practiced during each training session.

It may take a little longer to teach the Beagi how to come, sit, and stay than other breeds, but the task is far from impossible. To make the process easier and quicker, owners can always work with a professional trainer, at least in the beginning.

Grooming ✂️

The Corgi Beagles have short, dense double coats that should be brushed a few times a week to keep shedding to a minimum. Their fur doesn’t grow long, so they never need to be trimmed. They could use a bath once a month to keep their fur soft and free of unwanted odors.

Their nails should be inspected monthly and trimmed if any chips, cracks, or other types of damage are observed. Owners can brush their teeth or feed them dental chews to help minimize the risk of them developing gum disease.

Health and Conditions ❤️

Unfortunately, there are a few severe health conditions that the Beagi is susceptible to. Knowing about them early on makes it easier to deal with the problems if they arise at some point during the dog’s life.

Minor Conditions
  • Ear infections
  • Hip dysplasia
Serious Conditions
  • Eye problems
  • Epilepsy
  • Cystinuria
  • Hypothyroidism
  • Intervertebral disk disease

Divider 5Male vs. Female

Both male and female Beagis are loving and attentive. However, some owners and breeders report that males are a little more dominant than females and want to work toward being the leaders of the pack. However, they are never aggressive toward their pack members.

Females seem to be more independent than males and don’t need as much attention from their owners. Ultimately, there are not any significant between the two sexes that owners should be concerned about.
